Manager, Technical Services

Experient (formerly Conferon), Twinsburg, Ohio ( 2006 – 2009)

Created and managed Technical Services department, providing strategic planning, technical consulting, needs analysis, project definition and implementation, staff development, vendor interface and budget management.  Responsible for telecommunications, desktop support and help desk operation, supporting a user community of 700+ in eleven offices nationwide. Reported directly to the CIO.

·         Revamped the Technical Services Department combining the IT resources of three companies:

-   Standardized operations and maintenance of PC’s, teleconferencing systems, audio visual equipment and telecommunications.

-   Nurtured 6 technicians into a single team approach for the management and support of the companies IT resources and provided high quality customer service.

·         Chosen to develop $1M enterprise wide VoIP telephone solution:

-   Created RFP, selected vendor and gained project approval from executive leaders.

-   Successfully installed $450,000 phase one in two locations, on time as scheduled.

-   Improved call center efficiencies and reporting. Efforts brought accolades from clients.

·         Automated purchase request routing system supporting $5M budget, used on-hand application to automatically route and notify appropriate approvers. Improved tracking and processing time. 

·         Reviewed telecommunications costs for eleven operating locations. Organized and consolidated invoices, eliminated unneeded circuits and trunks, resulting in a $10,000 annual savings.

·         Implemented a common help desk platform and service level agreements, providing an avenue for problem identification, monitoring and reporting; improving overall customer service.

·         Gained acceptance from a diverse cross-functional team to volunteer “after work hours” to complete a stalled Active Directory project; the successful on-time completion was paramount to installation of a major telecommunications system.  The team came through ahead of schedule.

·         Designed and directed building/office network installation, server and personal computer moves, telephone equipment and circuit moves for five remote offices relocations.  Worked with vendors providing office wiring and telephone circuit installations.  All moves were completed on time and within downtime limitations.

·         Commended by vendors for partnering with them to develop and provide optimal solutions. Recognized as an honest and fair negotiator striving for a win-win for both parties.

Conferon, Twinsburg, OH (1995 – 2006)

Directed the operations, support and maintenance of company IT infrastructure including email, database and web servers; network firewalls, routers and switches; desktop and laptop computers; printers, audio visual equipment, telephone system and cell/PDA devices.  Supported 225 local and remote customers and managed $2M capital and expense operation budgets.  Reported to CIO.

·         Developed Technical Services Department as the company grew in personnel and IT capability:

-   Designed network infrastructure, data center and managed telephone system installation at newly built corporate location; after a busy weekend move, opened Monday as scheduled.

-   Grew from two Novell servers to numerous Microsoft based servers supporting email, CRM and custom databases, file shares and web servers, providing stable and reliable operation.

·         Hired, mentored and evaluated a staff of 8 engineers and technicians:

-   Focused on team approach to problem solving, empowering team ownership, pride and accomplishment, maintaining average staff retention of 7 years.

-   Recognized by annually receiving company’s highest ratings for customer service and support, receiving numerous co-worker accolades for exceptional service.

·         Established detailed IT process supporting convention registration services, conducted 20+ times yearly at remote locations nationwide.  Deployed application database server, client workstations, local area networks and backup systems.  Proven stable process produced no IT system failures. 

·         Introduced “technician on call” system supporting convention registration services, system enables single phone call notification of the best fit technician for swift problem resolution.

·         Standardized a systematic approach for PC system replacement and created a company inventory of personal computer systems, increasing system reliability and improving user satisfaction.

US Air Force

Honed leadership, discipline, dedication, learning effective management techniques and excellent customer service.  Developed appreciation of belonging to a service organization.  Realized no matter how bad things seemed to be, if it is not a life or death matter, it is not as bad as it seems. Unique opportunity for international travel and experience in four diverse areas.

·         IT – Planned and managed the purchase and installation of personal computers; designed and directed the installation of local area networks in 14 locations.  Managed a $1M+ budget.

·         Engineering – Directed technical teams performing baseline equipment evaluations of airfield Navigational Aids and weather radar systems.  Evaluations optimized operational parameters of ground equipment and provided airborne analysis of radio frequency propagation. Efforts enhanced worldwide USAF flight safety.

·         Instruction – Instructed radio theory course and hands-on training of USAF radio systems for apprentice-level Air Force technicians.  Developed course structure, workbooks and course exams.

·         Technician – Maintained air to ground and point to point radio systems, supporting worldwide USAF tactical air control support for forward base operations.
